How to Price Your Digital Products (Without Undercharging)

The #1 mistake digital product creators make is underpricing. Here's how to fix that.

The Problem With Cost-Based Pricing

Most creators think: "This took me 4 hours to make, so I should charge $20." That's backwards. Your customer doesn't care how long it took — they care about the outcome.

A Notion template that saves someone 10 hours per month is worth far more than the 3 hours it took you to build it.

The Value-Based Pricing Framework

Ask three questions:

  • 1. What problem does this solve? The bigger the problem, the higher the price.
  • 2. What's the alternative? If someone would otherwise hire a freelancer for $500, your $49 template is a steal.
  • 3. What result does it deliver? Quantify it. "Save 10 hours/month" or "Grow your Instagram by 1,000 followers."

Price Anchoring

Always show the value before the price. On your product page, list what's included, the results customers can expect, and what the alternative costs. By the time they see the price, it should feel like a deal.

The Price Tiers That Work

  • $9-19 — Entry-level, single-purpose products. Low barrier, high volume.
  • $29-49 — The sweet spot. Premium enough to signal quality, accessible enough for impulse buys.
  • $79-149 — Comprehensive products. Course bundles, premium template packs, detailed guides.
  • $199+ — Flagship products. Full courses, coaching elements, community access.

Don't Race to the Bottom

If your product is $5, you need 1,000 sales to make $5,000. If it's $49, you need 102 sales. Which sounds more achievable?

Price with confidence. The right customers will pay — and they'll value your product more because of it.
